FD-04321A: with Kevin Swartwood, Buhach Colony HS (CA) Head Coach; 2010 Central California Conference Champions, 2010 Sun-Star Football Coach of the Year

Kevin Swartwood's offense put up 4,200 rushing yards in the 2012 season. Now he shares the keys to this effective offense. Using power point, practice film, and game footage, Kevin Swartwood covers the basics of the Shotgun Fly Sweep and why this play creates problems for the defense by attacking the edge with more blockers than there are defenders.

Coach Swartwood introduces several different concepts to help you understand how he attacks different defenses. He shows you how to install the Gun Fly Sweep as a progression through a simplified numbering system. This numbering system tells your players what defenders they will block. With the ME ME or GAS call you will have the ability to change blocking assignments on the fly. This strategic advantage will maximize the effectiveness of the play called.

Learn how to adjust your blocking scheme to allow your offense to handle different defensive schemes. You will get technical insight on how to ensure that great blocks are made to create success for the offense. You will also see several different ideas for how your offense can provide false keys and fake different plays to create confusion for the defense.

Video footage allows you to learn the mesh, catch, perimeter and half line drills to install and develop three types of Fly Sweeps. The drills will allow you to fine tune the timing of the snap to the motion and fakes and allows for different blocking scenarios. This progression will build confidence in your players that they can handle any scenario under duress, which will train 11 individuals to work as one fluid offensive unit.

This DVD delivers an inside look at everything you need to install the fly sweep into your offense. This scheme can be incorporated into multiple offenses that are looking to stretch the defense sideline to sideline.

Learn to use your tailback and quarterback as a weapon against a team that is loading up to stop your sweep.

Using power point, diagrams, drills, and game footage, Kevin Swartwood teaches you the concepts of the inside run plays of the shotgun fly sweep offense. You'll see three basic inside run plays for the shotgun fly:

  • Skin Scheme (aka Zone Read) - The Skin Scheme is two plays built into one that will put multiple blockers at the point of attack. If your quarterback hands the ball off to his running back, he will follow two offensive linemen pulling, to lead your running back to daylight. If your quarterback keeps the ball, the edge of the defense will flow with the pulling linemen, which will put your quarterback in a great position to run like a lightning bolt through the defense.
  • QB Draw - Maximize your quarterback's abilities and minimize the defense's ability to stop him. Your quarterback will take a three-step drop forcing the defense to drop back into pass coverage responsibilities, while the offensive linemen are baiting the d-line into thinking pass. As the d-line rushes hard, your quarterback attacks the line of scrimmage. With defensive players now out of position thinking pass, your quarterback will be following his blockers with a two-way go.
  • Dash Trap - Swartwood shows how to run the Dash Trap versus odd and even fronts. The Dash Trap puts your athletic quarterback in a position to use his feet to sift through defenses for impact plays. The use of motion to ignite a possible sweep will keep the defenders feet paralyzed. This will give your quarterback a decided advantage as he attacks the inside perimeter of the defense.
The Dash Trap includes a fail safe blocking scheme that gives your offensive linemen the ability to adjust to different techniques they recognize from the defensive linemen by using a "Butter" call. The Butter call will change responsibilities between the center and tackle ensuring the Dash Trap will be fluid.

Coach Swartwood explains different drills that are used in the offense to allow for a great amount of reps to help the players learn the offense.

Kevin Swartwood provides a simple yet effective passing game that translates easily to any offensive scheme. He provides play action passes using multiple motion packages so you can easily incorporate each play into your offense and make adjustments throughout a game. The rhythm and read routes in this video will provide you with a simple, but highly effective, passing game.

Once the Fly Sweep has been established, you can unleash the Play Action Passing Attack. Play action will slow down aggressive, fleet-footed defenders by freezing their feet.

Each play is drawn up complete with offensive line protection, backfield action and route concepts vs a 3-4 defense and a 4-man front defense. You'll see the following schemes off of his fly sweep play action:

  • 3-Step Passing Game (5-step if under center) - The backbone of any passing game.
  • Bootleg Scheme - The bootleg off of the run fakes is a great use of misdirection in the pass game.
  • PAC (play action) Scheme - Made to mirror the fly sweep and trap, the PAC scheme will put defensive players in a bind by slowing their run coverage or beating them after they come up.
  • Rocket Screen to #1 Wide Receiver.
  • Skin Pass Scheme - Use play action off of your zone read scheme.
This video reveals the weaknesses of a variety of coverages, provides terminology to help you break down coverages, and shows you how to identify throws to ensure you and your quarterback are on the same page. You will also learn how to take advantage of defenses that roll their safeties in response to different formations.

Video of the multiple pass play installation is provided throughout the DVD. Coach Swartwood follows each practice video with game footage of the different pass concepts in action. You will not only see how to install the play, but how it works on the field. You'll be able to add these concepts to any offense in pieces or as a whole.

Expand your play action pass game today! No matter what type of offense you run, the passing concepts in this video can easily be incorporated into your system.
