University of South Carolina quarterbacks coach Dan Werner has had the privilege of working with some of the top football programs in the nation for over 30 years. In this video, he presents the mechanics and drills you'll need to teach your quarterback how to run an explosive RPO offense.
Quick Game from the Shotgun
With the help of two athletes, Coach Werner begins by demonstrating several drills that teach the quick game. Footwork, drop mechanics, and ball location are covered for a variety of common throws that accompany the quick passing game. Werner also spends time explaining how a QB's footwork ties into his timing and ability to deliver the pass on time. Additionally, ball location and trajectory are covered plus some tips for improving your quarterback's accuracy.
Drills for Teaching the RPO
Coach Werner provides an in-depth look at how he teaches and drills the shotgun run game for QBs, as well as the RPOs that go with them. Ball handling, mesh mechanics, and footwork are covered for both the inside zone and outside zone running plays from the shotgun.
Next, Werner goes into detail about the specific reads he teaches his QBs on both the zone read play and for his RPOs. Every throw that is used with the RPO package is drilled in order to simulate actual game conditions. In all, you'll learn:
