In a game that predominantly features spread offenses, it has become advantageous to be different: enter the Fat Formation offense. By incorporating the principles of a balanced single-wing formation with a modern passing game, the Fat Formation offense can be used to attack any defense using a simple scheme in order to yield solid results.
Coach Bruce Eien explains the play calling terminology he uses in the Fat Formation and how it simplifies the offense from a teaching and learning standpoint. He diagrams, via a PowerPoint presentation, various formations, motions, shifts, and ways to unbalance the offensive formation to gain a numbers advantage on the defense. You'll see how to run the offense if you have four good running backs, four to five great wide receivers or a great tight end-wing combination. Coach Eien essentially shows you how to make the Fat Formation offense fit all personnel situations.
A Multiple Offense
Coach Eien, with his many years of experience around a variety of offenses from the Power I to the Run and Shoot, has learned many tried and true principles of offensive football. He shows you how to use multiple points of attack while using various formations, all with a simple communication system that will allow your offense to dominate opposing defenses on game day. From this video you will learn how to:
- Install multiple motions and formations
- Use multiple launch points (direct snaps)
- Shift formations to create defensive confusion
Shifting
Football has a storied past of innovative offensive strategy in trying to defeat opponents. Many offenses of old used to shift from multiple formations, which would prevent defenses from lining up correctly. Only now do we see this being utilized regularly by the likes of Stanford and Michigan. Coach Eien has done the research and informs the viewer of such iconic shifting such as the:
- Notre Dame shift
- Landry shift
- Minnesota shift
Huddling
In addition to shifting to create problems for your opponents, Coach Eien also recommends various huddling strategies to keep defenses on their toes. This includes Auburn's Sugar Huddle, Quick Huddle, No Huddle and Michigan's Line Huddle.
Power Offense with Misdirection
Coach Eien diagrams the base plays of the offense, which include plays that are designed to feature one of four potential ball carriers, as well as pass plays that feature two different passers. The run plays diagrammed are blast, wham, power, and sweep. The pass plays are smash, mesh, and roll, as well as several single wide receiver routes designed to take advantage of favorable match-ups. Each play can be run from multiple formations and combined with motions, shifts, and misdirection to create different looks for the defense.
A wise man once said, "You can be good, or you can be different." With Coach Eien's Fat Formation, you can be both. A unique, but sound offensive system will be different to your opponent, forcing them to use up valuable practice time preparing to face your system. The small, but effective number of plays will allow an offense to get good at what they do, build an identity, and get after it!
"The information on shifting offenses alone made this video worth it. I now know of new ways to help disguise my tendencies all while not having to waste practice time." - Customer Review

Every offense looks to create deception and misdirection. The Fat Formation provides a slew of opportunities for your team to get the defense moving to the area where the ball should go, as your players quickly move the ball in the opposite direction.
If you need to infuse new life into your offense, this video gives you everything you need to further confuse opposing defenses and get the ball to any back in your offense. In this presentation, Bruce Eien gives you details on over 50 running plays to complement the Fat Formation base package, and over 15 pass concepts to handle any situation and make sure your team is never predictable.
The Fat Formation is unique in football because it combines the uniqueness of single wing football with modern passing game concepts. Eien's use of compressed formations can give your offense an advantage because many defenses don't defend compressed formations very often. Coach Eien explains how he creates misdirection by tagging various motions and fakes onto his base run plays.
Attack Using Multiple Backs
Eien takes you through the man running game series and the counters and misdirections that accompany them in order to create greater opportunities against your opponents. The various series presented are: power (which is the base series), buck, jet, fly, twist, rock, roller, bam, spin, triple, and pitch. Just wait until you get to the stupid series - if you really love to mess with the defense, then this is the series for you!
Coach Eien diagrams how each series can be tagged, along with base play calls, to add the illusion of a different play for the defense. He demonstrates which tags can be called with each series based on who the ball carrier is, and various formations to use to further gain an advantage.
Passing Game Misdirection
Eien explains how each series can be utilized with the passing game as well. The passing game features multiple launch points, as well as multiple players that can be the passer, rather than just the traditional quarterback that is behind the center. Eien diagrams the blocks and rules for lineman and backs. He includes several adjustments to the blocking scheme that can be called as a tag along with each play call. Each of these tags give the defense the illusion of a different play while not requiring any new learning for the offense.
Coach Eien pulls out all the stops and gives you many play options, all diagrammed in detail. Never be under-prepared to attack any defense with this amazing collection of plays for the Fat Formation!

All defenses have strengths and weaknesses, and it's important to determine where each defense is strong to be able to attack its weaknesses.
Coach Bruce Eien takes you through defensive fronts and the adjustments opposing coaches make in order to take away the strengths of the Fat Formation. He makes it easy to identify several fronts and thoroughly explains each defense and how you can exploit those defenses to generate more success against each front you see.
Eien begins by explaining his play calling philosophy of attacking the defense where it is weak. You'll see how he classifies defenses first by coverage, because the coverage a defense runs will dictate how many defenders they can have in the front.
Using Eien's philosophy, you will easily be able to determine the type of defense that each team you play is running and how to attack each of them. He covers:
- Forming an identity and mindset
- Using tendencies in your favor
- Dealing with blitzes
- What to do when the defense keys on certain players
Coach Eien diagrams several defenses commonly seen, such as the 4-3, 4-4, 5-3, 5-2 Okie, 46 Bear, and 3-3 stack along with various other short yardage and goal-line fronts. Learn how he attacks each defense - either up the middle, off tackle, or on the perimeter - based on what each defense takes away.
Going one step further, Coach Eien explains how defenses may try to overload the strong or weak side, or to the field or away from it. He describes his philosophy of attacking overloaded defenses, as well as defenses that will try to stay balanced against all formations. You'll also see some "change-ups," such as false motion and unbalanced formations to further gain an advantage on the defense.
Coach Eien gives you everything you need to hone your play calling skills in the Fat Formation in this exclusive presentation. Even if you run another offensive scheme, the information in this video is certain to make you a better play caller!

One of the major knocks on the single wing is the lack of passing game, but thanks to Bruce Eien, this is a thought of the past. Coach Eien has taken spread offensive passing concepts, combined them with multiple single wing and air raid concepts to build one of the best single wing passing systems to date. You'll learn it all through this exclusive PowerPoint presentation narrated by Coach Eien.
See how to get maximum mileage out of a pass concept by utilizing different routes and formations to present the defense with new looks. Eien explains 10 different pass concepts and how to use them effectively. Each concept contains several patterns, but the QB reads don't change within the concept. He diagrams each play and demonstrates the routes, where each route breaks, and the quarterback reads for each concept.
Many of these concepts are related in terms of how they are designed to attack defenses, which allows for greater carryover in teaching your players.
Quarterback Movement Keys and Reads
Coach Eien explains his philosophy of reading movement keys and the two basic reads the quarterback must make: a horizontal stretch or a vertical stretch. Within each concept, Eien demonstrates the specific defender QBs are attacking and the quarterback's reactions to their movements. With a movement key philosophy, the quarterback can execute the offense with less preparation time because of the carryover from each concept.
Eien also explains various complementary play packages such as movement passes, screens, picks and rubs, and one-on-one beaters when you are presented with a favorable match-up.
Pass Protection Schemes
Keep it simple for your offensive line with two pass pro schemes, then add backs to get maximum protection for your quarterback. Everything is explained and diagrammed to get your team up and protecting quickly.
The Fat Formation is unique in football because it combines the uniqueness of single wing football with modern passing game concepts. Coach Eien's use of compressed formations can give the offense an advantage because many defenses don't defend compressed formations very often. The passing game concepts presented can be easily adapted to virtually any formation.
From verticals to the screen game, it is all covered in this extensive passing manual for the Fat Formation single wing, and backed up with video support from Coach Eien.

Quite often in football, teams beat themselves because of missed assignments in the run game. This is often a result of players thinking too much, which slows them down and makes the offense less effective. The answer to this problem is the Fat Formation blocking scheme. By using simplistic terms, your players will play fast and be more aggressive, allowing for fewer mistakes and better consistency in moving the football.
The Fat Formation is unique in football because it combines the uniqueness of single wing football with modern passing game concepts. Bruce Eien's use of compressed formations can give the offense an advantage over defenses because many teams don't defend compressed formations very often. The run game associated with the Fat Formation is effective because it is based on rule blocking that maximizes the carryover of learning from week to week, enabling your players to focus more on execution and less on scheme.
Coach Eien takes the guesswork and confusion out of the blocking rules by showing, step-by-step in a PowerPoint presentation, how to block three common defensive fronts. He walks you through each lineman's rule and how to apply it as he diagrams the play on screen. He takes you through every play in the Fat Formation, diagramming it against the 44 defense, and the 53 and 62 fronts. You will see rules for the Wham, Power, Sweep, Wedge and the Blast series
Fat Formation Blocking Rules
Coach Eien explains the various rules with easy to learn acronyms that apply to each position. Witness how to install simplistic terms such as:
- GOD = Gap/On/Double Team
- MOMA = Man On/Man Away
- GOOD = Gap/On/Outside/Down
- FBI = First Backer Inside
Attack Any Area of the Field
Coach Eien diagrams various plays that are packaged by who the ball carrier will be to take advantage of your offensive personnel, the defensive alignment, or the way the defensive is keying on your offense. You'll see a quarterback series, a fullback series, a tailback series, and a wingback series. Each play attacks a different area of the defense
As an added bonus, Coach Eien explains over 10 "change-ups" that can easily be tagged onto each play to counter what the defense may do, or to handle any difficult match-ups that may occur during a game. Using these adjustment calls gives you the advantage of changing up the blocking scheme without confusing your players.
With a myriad of offenses, and many different blocking schemes, it is easy to overload and confuse players. Coach Eien takes the guesswork and confusion out of blocking rules and schemes. His Fat Formation concepts are simple to install and teach, but will give your offense enough different looks to keep the defense on its heels.
"This video makes it so simple for the offensive line, and the adjustments will create multiple problems for any defense. I can't wait to put the rules to use in my offense." Customer Review
